Capital Needs

A Fund for Community Building

There are times when one-time expenditures are necessary that fall beyond annual operating costs.  Sand Hill Foundation offers grants of up to $50,000 for urgent capital needs or consulting expenses.

To apply, please first review this link to the Small Capital Needs Grant Application Overview

Spring Submissions
Applications will be accepted between March 1 and March 30, 2018. Decisions will be announced by April 30.

Fall Submissions
Applications will be accepted between August 1 and August 31, 2018. Decisions will be announced by September 28.

All organizations working within our focus areas and geographic scope are eligible to apply for small capital grants. These grants provide funding for specific capital purchases and/or project-based consulting contracts that will strengthen your organization.

Grantees who are currently the recipient of another Sand Hill Foundation grant, with prior approval from the Foundation, may submit a second request for small capital needs.

Examples of past capital grants include: the costs of an unexpected office move, a new youth group van, technology upgrades, and the build-out of a small-business incubator space. Examples of past capacity building consulting grants include: the design and build-out of an integrated database, expanded evaluation systems for youth programs, and strategic planning and financial modeling following a growth campaign.

In response to the number of grant requests for Small Capital Needs that we receive, we have established two submission deadlines for 2018 and will issue decisions approximately one month after the submission deadline.
